Our rooms

Two rooms, two stages

We have two rooms, each set up for the age of the children in it. Both are Montessori-inspired, and in both, children spend lots of time outdoors.

Inside our rooms

Our rooms are named Ghurfat al-Nūr, the Room of Light, and Ghurfat al-ʿIlm, the Room of Knowledge. “Ghurfat” means “room”.

Every part of each room is designed to help children make choices, try new skills and discover the world around them.

Ghurfat al-NūrRoom of Light

Ghurfat al-Nūr (Room of Light) is where our youngest children begin their time with us. It is a warm, calm space where they can explore, discover and grow at their own pace.

What grows here

  • Independence
  • Confidence
  • Curiosity

The room is inspired by Montessori principles. Children learn through hands-on experiences, purposeful play and carefully prepared activities, building independence, confidence and curiosity along the way.

Everything in the room is set up to help little ones start making their own choices, try new skills and find out about the world around them.

Each child has a Key Person, who gets to know them and their family well. Arabic is part of every day, and children spend time outdoors in the mud kitchen, by the sound wall, among the vegetables and with Pearl, our African snail.

Ghurfat al-ʿIlmRoom of Knowledge

Ghurfat al-ʿIlm (Room of Knowledge) is our room for older children. Here, children are ready to do more for themselves, and we give them the time and space to do it.

What grows here

  • Concentration
  • Responsibility
  • A love of learning

The day mixes free play with carefully prepared Montessori activities. Children build concentration, solve problems and grow a real love of learning. Our planning follows the seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), so every child gets a broad and balanced range of experiences.

Children enjoy lots of time outdoors. They help care for our chickens and watch the vegetables grow, which connects them with nature and lets them learn through real-life experiences.

Arabic is taught every day in small groups with our Arabic language teacher. Phonics is part of daily learning too, laying the foundations for reading and writing.

Every part of the room is designed to help children make choices, develop new skills and discover the world around them.
