Your questions, answered

Quick answers to the questions parents ask us most.

Getting started

What are your opening hours?

We are open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4pm, in term time only. We offer full days only. We close on bank holidays, for Eid and on inset (staff training) days.

What ages do you take?

We care for children from 1 to 5 years old. Ghurfat al-Nūr (Room of Light) is for children aged 1 to 2, and Ghurfat al-ʿIlm (Room of Knowledge) is for children aged 3 to 4.

When can my child start?

Children can start at any time of year, not just in September. Our waiting list is usually several months long, so we recommend joining up to a year before you'd like your child to start.

How does the waiting list work?

Fill in our online form and we will add your child to the list. The wait is usually several months, so we recommend joining up to a year before you'd like your child to start. Brothers and sisters of children already at the nursery get priority.

Can I visit before I apply?

Yes, please do. Visits usually take 10 to 15 minutes, or longer if you have lots of questions. We arrange them around you, but not during lunch or sleep time.

How does settling in work?

You will fill in an 'All About Me' profile on Eylog first. On your first visit you meet your child's Key Person. Then we build up slowly, from a short time apart to half a day and then a full day. There is no fixed timetable. We go at your child's pace.

How to join

Fees and funding

Do you accept funded hours?

Yes. We accept 15 hours for all 3 and 4-year-olds, 15 hours for some eligible 2-year-olds, and 30 hours for working parents of children from 9 months old to school age. We take children from age 1, so ask us which funded hours we can offer for your child's age. We also accept Tax-Free Childcare and childcare vouchers.

How much are your fees?

For 2026/27, a full day costs £52.00 for children aged 1 to 2, and £51.00 for children aged 3 to 5. Fees are reviewed each September. You pay by bank transfer. We do not offer a sibling discount.

Are there any extra charges on funded places?

There are no compulsory charges for funded places. We ask for a voluntary snack contribution of 90p a day. You do not have to pay it. There is a £5.00 charge if a child is collected more than 5 minutes late.

Daily life

What does my child eat at nursery?

Please send a packed lunch from home. We provide healthy snacks, and children can have milk and water throughout the day.

What does my child need to bring?

A bag, a coat for the weather and a packed lunch. Children play outside every day, so clothes that can get muddy are best. Your child's Key Person will talk you through anything else before your child starts.

Faith and learning

Do we need to be Muslim to join?

No. We have an Islamic ethos, and we welcome families of all faiths and backgrounds. Children learn about people, cultures and traditions from around the world, and we respect each family's beliefs.

Will my child learn Arabic?

Yes, Arabic is part of every day. Younger children hear and use it through play. Older children have small-group Arabic lessons with our Arabic language teacher.

What is your approach to learning?

We are Montessori-inspired and follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Children learn through child-led play, hands-on activities and lots of time outdoors, with the chickens, the vegetables and Pearl, our African snail.

Can you support my child's additional needs?

Yes. Our Nursery Manager, Sahara El-Batal, is also our SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and oversees our support for children with special educational needs. Please talk to us about your child, and we will work with you.

Our approach

Madrassa

Do you run a Madrassa?

Yes. Madrassa al-Saʿādah is for children aged 4 to 6. It runs from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, Monday to Thursday, in term time. Each child comes two days a week: Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday.

About the Madrassa

  • Children beside a tyre planter full of grass in the garden
